What is the +12V rail used for in power supplies?

Sherrill Botting: The 12V rail is what all the Molex connectors (the little 4-pin ones with clipped corners) run off of...it generally powers things like fans and optical drives.One rail might be enough, as it probably has 3-4 connectors on it...check what kind of power all your components take. Also, if you're like 1 connector short, they do sell splitters...just don't use too many or you'll exceed the maximum amperage on the rail and blow a fuse (or the supply)....Show more
