Buy 4 LAN cables as well to connect from the router to the 3 PCs + 1 printer (you have to ensure that your printer support network printing, otherwise it's useless).Connect your modem to the router (via a cable which is usually given by the router/modem).Connect all 4 items to the router.Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties".Under the "Computer Name" tab click on "Change.." button.Specify a same WORKGROUP name for all PCs.Once all set up, you have to restart the PCs. Caryl Mclaen: if your all using windows xp or all using vista you did the hardest part. you ran a cable. not just plug those wires into a router... anyone will do just open the box for the router and power it on. thats it. nothing needed to configure. now run windows networking wi! zard save your settings to a USB drive or floppy and install on the other computers. or just run the wizzard and awnser all the same questions the same way on the other computers. turn off any Firewalls you have on your computers (norton internet security Mcafee windows etc.) thats really it. xp shares printers on it owns once it find the other computers. other wise browse your network (click my network) click on your computer that has the printer hooked up to it. and then click on the printer. it will install on the computer you connected to. very simpleor call me i'll come and charge you $250 heeh jk...Show more

Your Cable or DSL company sets up your Internet access and typically either rents or sells you a Cable or DSL network bridge. They often refer to this as a Cable or DSL “modem”. Actually a complete misnomer since the device does NOT modulate or demodulate, nor does it convert analog to digital or digital to analog.Prices for Cable or DSL Internet access vary from approximately $19 per month to $80 per month in the United States. This va! ries based on bandwidth, location, and provider.At this point you have what is commonly called “Broad Band” or “High Speed” Internet access.Now you want to share that high speed connection with more than one system. You want to be able to cart your laptop all over the house and stay connected to the Internet as you do so. 1. Confirm that your system has a wireless adapter or get one and install it. You need one of these for each computer. USB type are better. USB type that are 802.11n are best.2. Get a wireless router. I recommend the D-Link DIR-655. Get D-Link n series USB wireless adapters if you get the D-Link wireless router. If you get a Linksys wireless router, get Linksys wireless adapters. Use WPA2 if you can. WPA-PSK if not WPA2, or WEP at the very least.3. Bob Nakamoto: What you need a router. Run all three cords to the router and connect your modem to it. The Cat5 cables need to be NON-CROSSOVER. Usually the router will have several ports on the back and 1 uplink port. Connect the computer cords to the Non-Uplink ports and the modem to the uplink port. Usually the routers have a DHCP server on them so you don't have to set IP addresses, but it varies with each device.
