Should I sell my Saturn car?

Jonathon Labonne: How much do you owe on the Relay? Keep in mind, if you keep the LW200, things may start to go on it, and you will be sunk with a repair bill.

George Dingeldein: GM will not go bankrupt and do not think that if a car dealer close you cannot be able to get spare parts for it.

Woodrow Neyman: I don't know if this is the right forum for such question, all advice are going to be very subjective. It is hard for a lay man to know what it is like to be in your shoes. That being said, if I were in your situation I would keep that car. You do need the car, it has proven that it is reliable and you may not get the right price in this market. Another option is to put it for sale and see what kind of offers you get, if you get a good offer then sell it and then patiently start looking for a great car at a great price. My $0.02...Show more

Frederic Engellant: You are going about this completely wrong.First thing. Even if GM goes bankrupt (which th! ey won't) their cars will not be worthless. That is just not true. There are 100 million GM cars on the road today and there will always be companies making parts for them and qualified mechanics to repair them. Why would you sell a car that you admit is in good condition and costs you nothing to drive (paid up!)? If you get to a point when you need to sell a car, sell the one that you're making payments on. Getting rid of those car payments and reducing your debt should be your goal if you are looking at a possible job lose. Selling a car that you are still paying will do more for freeing up cash in your budget than selling an older car that isn't costing you anything. ...Show more

Darnell Cutliff: First off Gm will not go bankrupt, it is a worldwide corporation...even if it did , your Saturn would be worth the same as now, it is past it's parts prime already....I would keep it, right now it is the cheapest transportation you can own...all it's costing you is mai! ntenance and gas...If I were in your situation , the one I wou! ld be considering selling is the one you owe money on....to get rid of the payment........Show more

Brian Freedland: Are you looking for job right now? Okay here's how I see it. Now if you get laid off even if GM goes bankrupt you can still sell your car in the private market and get what you need on it. The dealer probably won't give you anything but someone who needs a resonable priced car will most likely do it. I just wouldn't jump to conclusion, wait it out a little longer. GM will most likely tell you in advance the date that everything will close down. The moment you found out that date and it's offical that's when it's time to sell and don't even think about making much of profit just get it paid off. I just would hate for you to sell the car now and then things work out. What is your back up plan for losing your job? Also there will more then likely be a "pink ticket" package they give you guys with some pay and unemployment. Just really think abou! t it and what you plan to do. ...Show more
