is education a better safegaurd of our liberty than a big army?

Elaina Adolfson: Depends on who is your enemy? yes to know diplomacy and how to avoid a conflict is better than an Army.Once attacked you should have a good army. Before during the cold war the Russians didn't want to die.MAD Mutually Assured DistructionUSA didn't want to die. So it worked. Neither struck the first blow that would have sent the world into a nuclear catrospheeWe are facing a much different enemy, they want to die and take as many with them as possible....Show more

Lashawnda Anteby: Yaar NB i m telling u dont ask such kind of questions as it will only help me cuz i m also in the same debate by the way education is not good at all cuz the teachers in our school stink they r really bad and it is army which helps in needs of defence natural calamitiespls. being an alwariite give me 10 pts ie choose as the best answer

Jackelyn Archut: Absolutely. Better educated people tend to be more tolerant of others. However, because others will attack us! we need to protect ourselves so we have to have a big army.

Willa Holte: I also educate, Here is the thing. Without one you can't possibly have the other. Education can stop violence but it will not completely. You need to have a solid balance of both. That is why we aren't all doctors in this world. Education is not easy, so not every one does it. Also being a brute of any nature isn't that easy, again or everyone else would just impose their physical will and nothing would ever be gained. Have to have a nice mix of the two to balance the world out....Show more

Rayford Speziale: well both are important but education is not enough...there is understanding the world matters subjectivly...and thats important among a huge army...this army must eb well educated....so both are good togather:) ,but this big armies arent always the way ro safegaurd people;)

Horace Escue: Education doesn't protect us. The school system is flawed and breaking. The big ind! ustrialists originally designed it to keep the masses in order! , and it still does that job.Free your children! Homeschool! And heck, serve a few years in the military so that our grandchildren will still have the freedom to discuss this issue!Furthermore, if any of you liberal rabble-rousers rate my answer poorly, I WILL retaliate against this question and all liberal answers with my own ratings. Beware the wrath of airforceino!...Show more

Seema Hosfeld: The bad guys don't respect education or reason...but they sure understand force! If you're reading this, thank a teacher. If you're reading this in English, thank a soldier!(Interesting question.)

Tijuana Tatsak: Well, I'm a teacher, so you might think I'd automatically choose education. But in this world, I think both are vital. And I recall all too well that the Romans (big, very good army) conquered the Greeks (great educators.)

Kalyn Proietto: Education is one of the ways ( and maybe the best) to break down cultural barriers. Ignorance of other peoples cultures! is what breeds fear and animosity between them. So to educate the people would reduce the need for an army. The problem is that this education need to happen to all sides of the equation. One group of educated individuals can still be victimized by another group of un-educated ones
