Is Tracing considered art?

Marquetta Gimm: Tracing is just a copy of art, tracing and then making changes free-hand would be considered a form of art.

Dorethea Beaston: You can use the "tracing" method for practice, don't do send it in to the art school. Since this is someone's real logo, there's probably copyright involved too. Why not try to draw it again, this time WITHOUT tracing? Or, try to do something on your own. It doesn't have to be absolutely perfect. We all have different views and different potentials. No one's artwork is identically the same. If your trying to get into an art school and your required to have a portfolio, they'll want to see YOUR work so they can see YOUR creativity and YOUR potential. Be yourself and don't rush. Take your time and don't be afraid to re-try. To help you out, if you draw something and it doesn't turn out how you wanted it to - make notes of what's "messed up", "off" or "uneven", then go back and redo it, focusing on the key areas that didn't turn ! out the first time. Always remember - if at first you don't succeed, try, try again! Hopefully this helped and good luck!...Show more

Gwenda Micheals: It is art as much as a poster reprint is art.It is NOT original art. It is a copy of art.

Coleman Senn: Not even a copy of the original, a poor reflection of the original.Copying an old master is one of the recognised methods for learning how to draw and paint, but copying is not the same as tracing, you will learn little from tracing.

Foster Koopmann: No, if it was then a photocopier would be the best artist ever made.

Hyman Coren: Yes.
