Why do I get a huge headache when I play shooting video games such as Gears of War 3?

Emilie Santmyer: One possibility could be that you are playing in the dark and/or your eyes are straining too much. Many games, especially FPS, use lots of darkness/shadows. Try turning on a light, behind and to the right or left of you (will give light but won't glare, test the angles).Some people get motion sickness because their brains see the movement, even when you are just sitting at your pc. My friend has this problem. Turning on a light helps him, but he still has a problem and usually has to take a break at least once per ! hour (some FPS games cause him to start feeling poorly within 15 minutes). Another thing that has helped him greatly is switching from an LCD to an old-style flat-screen CRT monitor (old-style, but with some searching, you can find new ones). Just to be clear, he doesn't get motion sickness normally, from actual movement, so don't write this possibility off just because you don't normally suffer from it.Another possibility (and the one that I am betting on) is that you are just simply in need of some type of corrective lens (contacts, glasses). You have probably heard of people needing glasses for reading, well you can need glasses for any situation where your eyes are strained. Fast moving high-detail shooters can put alot of strain on eyes. There are many people who get headaches from computer games, or even just looking at a computer screen, and think it is just because using a computer is bad for eyesight. Call up your eye doctor (just search yellowbook for one if you d! on't already have someone) and get a quick consult over the ph! one to see if he/she thinks you should come in. answers 0:I don't particularly care for extra attention, but last week I had to go to the Dr. for my back. I then had to go to another Dr. And then I broke a tooth, so I had to go to the dentist. When I went to the Dr.'s (which I haven't since I was very young, I'm 15) he wanted me to come back for tests. The other day they called to schedule the appointment and my mother said I no longer needed the tests (according to her, not the Dr.). I asked her why and she very snidely said, "Because, I'm spending enough money on your teeth. I am NOT going to take you to the Dr. Now stop riding my back" I saw the bill for my teeth and our dental issurance covered the entire costs. And our medical inssurance is seperate, and I know it covers the tests. I got a very distinct feeling that she very much disliked the fact that I was getting extra attention and! was mad that she had already given me extra attention. I never get extra attention myself. It's not really something I crave, but I didn't realize that I never get extra attention until that day. She has done this before. And absolutely hates it when I get extra attention, but not from anyone specifically. Why is this?P.S. I wonder if it's because when she was a child, her mother was slightly narcissistic. When I went to the dentist she refused for me to be sedated. I didn't ask for sedation, but I asked her why not. She said because when she had her root canal (I was having a root canal) she wasn't sedated and I needed to suck it up and stop expecting her to protect. answers 0:With things such as waxing, broken bones, dental operations etcAre there any methods or things that I can do to ease the pain?answers 1:I had a great deal of pain before my brain surgery. What worked best for me (other than pain medication) was doing something that took your attention. Dwelling on the pain only made it seem worse, so anything to distract the mind helped... I put together puzzles, went back through my highschool math texts, watched movies, etc. Anything to keep my mind somewhere other than my head trying to split apart...answers 2:In all three situations, you need to breath. It's very simple yet most people forget that it's crucial otherwise it makes everything worse! With waxing, you need to take a deep breath in right before they pull, then breath a long breath out when they yank it off.! I also took an ibuprofen about a half hr before the appt to help. As far as pain from a broken bone, that's just it, it's a broken bone, there isn't much you can really do for that one. If you just broke it and you are waiting for an ambulance or in the car to the doctor, keep yourself still and try to keep people away from you (so they don't accidentally kick your broken leg or something-people get frantic when stuff like that happens and either wanna get close to take pictures or get too close because they wanna help). Doctors should be able to provide you with medication that is stronger than over the counter meds. As far as for the dental operations, depending on what you are getting done you should have some options. If it's a small procedure, like getting your braces put on (then you are just going to be in pain, I know I was because of the pressure), you can take ibuprofen or tylenol before hand to kick start your help. If you are having oral surgery like an implant! put in, the oral surgeon will have meds on hand to give you i! n office (like a local anesthetic, gas or liquid to knock you out-this is the good stuff, i used it when I had my implant put in but it didn't really work until after the fact, this could have been because of my nerves). Sometimes you also have to evaluate what you yourself are thinking in your head. There is a possibility that you are making the pain worse than what it really is, because you believe you are in pain or will soon be in pain? Hope everything helps!...
